This research presents the characterization of the intentionality and performance of 30 high school students when writing the descriptive analysis of short literary texts of the Sumerian culture. The study is empirical in design to promote writing and qualitative analysis of texts. The methodological approach includes feedback to promote the classification, systematization of information, and establishing agreements to write, review and improve the writing in a second version. The proposal of categories to study the texts corresponds to the approach of criteria and standards of textuality, intentionality, and expectations about descriptive analysis. The results show the attempts to solve difficulties in the analyzed aspects: content, context, textual genre, lexicon, type of language, and discursive forms, as well as the writing resources used: description, explanation, exemplification, decomposition, into parts and classification.
