Abstract
CASTRO-RIOS, Guido Angello and NOGUERA-HIDALGO, Ángela Lucía. Management styles in health sector in Colombia. estud.gerenc. [online]. 2022, vol.38, n.163, pp.136-150. Epub June 22, 2022. ISSN 0123-5923. https://doi.org/10.18046/j.estger.2022.163.4715.
The paper describes the emerging relationships between leadership behaviors, types of power and influence tactics of leaders over their collaborators in two university hospitals in Colombia. Instruments associated with each phenomenon were used to evaluate these relationships: Managerial Practices Survey, Scale to Measure the French and Raven Bases of Social Power, and Influence Behavior Questionnaire. Using multiple correspondence analysis and classification analysis, three clusters were identified consisting of multiple leadership behaviors, various types of power, and different influence tactics, which were called as management styles. As a result, an initial taxonomy of three leadership styles is proposed: supportive, mixed, and restrictive. Pressure and coercion are highlighted as the elements that cause the greatest differentiation among the proposed management styles.
