Abstract

The scenario within which the existence of the peculio develops, as an element also related to the contradictions and tensions inherent to the implementation of the institution of slavery in Colombian institutional history, is deeply particular. As can be seen from the literature, the slave was conceived as an ‘object’; For this reason, this article seeks to describe his transition to ownership of movable property, as well as real estate. Therefore, a documentary analysis of the primary references found in the Central Historical Archive of Cauca and the General Archive of the Nation related to slave litigation over access to their private property.
