Abstract

AVILA-GOMEZ, Andrés. The HEnsA20 and its context: a look at the French national research program on the history of architectural education during the 20th century. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2024, vol.26, n.1, pp.65-89.  Epub May 03, 2024. ISSN 1657-0308.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2024.26.5076.

The history of architectural education is not only a current topic in French academia but has also acquired a fundamental role in the daily debate on the present and future of the discipline that takes place in the schools of architecture where future professionals are trained. As the cradle of the Beaux-Arts model of teaching, implemented on a transnational scale during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the French institution represents a necessary case study for understanding the transformations that such teaching has undergone in architecture faculties and schools in different regions of the world. This text presents the context and a synthesis of the main components of the program HEnsA20: Histoire de l'Enseignement de l'Architecture au 20e siècle, the most ambitious national project implemented in France to study this aspect of architectural history in depth. Based on an analysis of the most recent research developed and disseminated in various forms (exhibitions, doctoral theses, etc.) within the French university environment, we propose an approach to this project, a true model that deserves in-depth analysis.
