This article addresses the increase in internally displaced persons in Iraq after the emergence of the Islamic State and the need for regional and international cooperation in the protection of these individuals. The article discusses the concept of internal displacement as the international conventions and examines the relationship between the increase of the number of individuals in this situation in Iraq and the emergence of the group in 2014. Besides this, it also recommends some resolutions to the problematic. Regarding International Relations to analyze the problematic in question, the cooperation by interest theory, proposed by Robert Axelrod and Robert O. Keohane is used, as well the concept of cross-issue-persuasion, formulated by Alexander Betts. Finally, the article recommends the creation of a safe haven zone in northern Iraq to protect religious minorities forced to move because of the actions of the Islamic State.
