Abstract

RESTREPO, Eduardo. Modernity and Difference. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2011, n.14, pp.125-154. ISSN 1794-2489.

This paper aims to call into question the way modernity has been understood, not only by its advocates, but also but those who think its theoretical and political practice must go through a questioning. The core argument in this paper is that modernity has never been, nor could it be, what it says it is. this does not mean, however, it has been some derisible stuff. Much of the contemporary theoretical and political imaginary is articulated by a hyperreal modernity tending to obliterate the density of manifold modernities, as well as to condition the legibility of difference principle.

Keywords : modernity; eventualization; governmentality; hyperreal modernity.
