Abstract
We start by considering that the crisis is represented by the image of education in order to revise the standing of physical education within the crisis, as a part of the education system in Uruguay. We intend to return to the main arguments that sustain the crisis as a reality, and some conservative and progressive proposed measures that question whether the physical education activity goes hand-in-hand with these statements, once the crisis has been recognized as the impossibility of facing contemporary needs or the so-called market-technical requirements, for example. While the broad field of education rejects any links with tradition -once proudly defended- physical education which does not seem to be affected by the boom of crisis, still finds some role models who defend old-style physical education. Within this framework of crisis and criticism, we propose to return to the statement "physical education is a healthy practice", as one additional input in revising this matter, this being one of the arguments that support its mandatory practice in a school in crisis.
