Abstract
MUNOZ, ALEJANDRO; CHEJNE, FARID; ESPINEL S., JORGE and LONDONO G., CARLOS. EVALUATION OF THE CELLULOSE OF PAPER AND COAL ASHES, LIKE ALTERNATIVE INSULATING MATERIALS. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2006, vol.73, n.148, pp.1-8. ISSN 0012-7353.
A conductimeter following ASTM C518 and C177 recommendations was built in order to measure the thermal behavior of two kind of solid waste materials coal ash and cellulose paper mixed with cement. Conductivity of these materials was obtained as a function of temperature. Coal ash conductivity was as low as 0.073 W/mK at a temperature of 250oC and the mixed cellulose paper conductivity was 0.241 W/mK at a temperature of 160oC. It shows that both kinds of materials have competitive insulating properties. Coal ash as example can replace the expensive ceramic fiber at high temperatures.
