Abstract
REIF ACHERMAN, SIMÓN; BLANCO SILVA, LORENA. and ARBOLEDA VILLANUEVA, LEONARDO. THE HYDROCYCLONE AS AN ALTERNATIVE FOR THE PARTIAL RECOVERING OF FILTER AIDS IN THE SUGAR REFINING PROCESS. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2010, vol.77, n.164, pp.292-300. ISSN 0012-7353.
The incorporation of filter aids in the filtration processes has increased the removal's efficiency of suspended impurities in the liquors resulting from the evaporation and crystallization steps in the refining sugar process. Nevertheless, the reduction in its lifetime to only one utilization cycle implies obvious disadvantages for its industrial application. The main objective of this work was the identification and validation of the use of a hydrocyclone as a technical and economical feasible alternative for partial recovering of these materials. The research based on the physical characteristics of the waste components (filter aids, activated carbon, saccharose, water and other impurities) and the amount of suspended solids in the flow.
