Abstract

AYALA DIAGO, CÉSAR AUGUSTO. Bits and Pieces Regarding the Use and Abuse of the Spanish Civil war in Colombia. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2011, vol.38, n.2, pp.111-152. ISSN 0120-2456.

The article is an advance of a long-awaited research study on the impact of the Spanish Civil war in Colombia. Some of the working hypotheses presented are the following: that the victory of the Spanish nationalists strengthened Hispanic ideology, and fascist consciousness among Colombians; that the Colombian soul was ready to assimilate and appropriate the Spanish conflict as if it were its own; that unpurged Hispanic and fascist ideologies continued to develop in Colombia after the Civil War and World War II ended; and, finally, that the fascists penetrated the Colombian political system through the revolving doors of State institutions.

Keywords : communism; Conservative Party; fascism; Hispanic heritage; Spanish Civil War.
