Abstract

MUNOZ, FERNANDA. Scope and Limitations of the Radical Education Project in the Sovereign State of Cauca, 1870-1885. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2013, vol.40, n.2, pp.115-143. ISSN 0120-2456.

In order to present the scope and limitations of the 1870 radical education project in the Sovereign State of Cauca in concrete factual terms, it is necessary to establish quantitative criteria regarding its institutionalization. Because the expansion of public education required schools, staff, supplies, and furniture, budget availability was fundamental. For purposes of acquiring a more complete knowledge of the school reality through quantities trends, the study analyzes the budget allocated for elementary public education, comparing it to school coverage. Results show that despite the financial efforts aimed at increasing school coverage, they were insufficient to give public education the position assigned to it in liberal discourse.

Keywords : Sovereign State of Cauca; institutionalization; elementary public education; radical education project.
