Abstract
JODA ESTEVE, BEATRIZ. The Slave Trade to Cuba (1790- 1840): The Female Quota. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2014, vol.41, n.2, pp.107-130. ISSN 0120-2456. https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v41n2.48783.
The article analyzes the slave trade to Cuba between 1790 and 1840 from a comparative and gender perspective. On the one hand, it addresses the controversy among the sources in order to research and quantify the female slaves taken to the island; on the other hand, it examines the evolution of the proportion of women that formed part of the slave trade. The causes and hypotheses that could explain the percentages found pose a dichotomy between female production and reproduction.
Keywords : African slave trade; domestic slavery; female slaves; Cuba; production; reproduction.
