Abstract
COLMAN RIBELATTO, Patricia Juana; MARQUES GENU, Aline; LUSTOSA, Sebastiao Brasil Campos and POTT, Cristiano André. Soil physical attributes under pasture Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu in the district of Jasy Cañy, Paraguay. Acta Agron. [online]. 2018, vol.67, n.3, pp.414-419. ISSN 0120-2812. https://doi.org/10.15446/acag.v67n3.68923.
Milk production is one of the most important activities in the Paraguayan economy, however in most cases this activity is being developed under degraded pastures due to lack of management which over time can affect soil physical characteristics and, therefore, the sustainability of animal production. The objective of this work was to evaluate the physical attributes of soils under Urochloa brizantha (marandu grass) grazing during 20, 10, 15 and 25 years, respectibly. The study was conducted in four farms located in the district of Jasy Cañy-Canindeyú, Paraguay. For the physical attributes, soil samples were collected at 0-5 cm, 5-10 cm and 10-15 cm layers, with five replications. Soil density, total porosity, macro and microporosity, porosity in the macropore domain, water storage capacity, air storage capacity and soil resistance to penetration were determined. Based on the results the soils of the studied areas did not present physical restrictions for plant growth, except for the area 4 which presented low levels of macroporosity.
