The professional risks related the labor organization mainly where the labor calendars stand out generate preoccupation for the Latin American anesthesiolgical community because the present time shows anesthesiologists working long night and day hours in stressful environments without facilities for the suitable rest These working schedules can generate effects on the body such as circadian rhythm alterations, sleep deprivation and fatigue, and in this way produce an impact mainly on the health and as an expanding way an impact on the efficiency and in the patients' safety. Alterations in the circadian rhythm generate pattern of alterations in everyday life causing an impact in the health provoking changes as digestive alterations, sleep pattern, body temperature, adrenaline secretion, cardiovascular alterations, and changes in human behaviour and in the hormonal activity. Sleep deprivation affects the health causing gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine and psychoneurotic alterations, and changes in the productivity and safety, it also provokes psychomotor alterations, cognitive alterations affecting clinic performance and contributing with the «human error». Fatigue impacts mainly in health provoking physical tiredness, stress, depression, headaches, gynaecological and obstetric alterations, on safety and effectiveness, lowering the intellectual performance leading to greater chances of human error. Fatigue influenced in a 6O% of the mistakes in anesthesia care, 86% in anesthesia clinical handling, 6% critical incidents in anesthesia, 10 % in mistakes in the administration of the wrong drug. Inadequate working schedules in anesthesiologists can generate situations of a high cost for the health and efficiency, exposing patients to risky situations.
