The obese patient is defined as such with a BMI (Body Mass Index), higher than 30 Morbil obesity BMI > 40 (2). The mortaly rate of the patient with morbid obesity is 12 times higher in people with ages between 25 and 34 years old, and six times higher in people with ages between 35 and 44 years of age. This risk increases with the presence of hypertension, diabetes, respiratory failure, arthritis, gastric reflux, alveolar hypoventilation syndrome, pulmonary htpertension, left ventricular failure and some types of cancer.
