Abstract
CAMARGO ASSIS, Francisco M. and SARQUIS SAAD, Tonny Alberto. Manejo perioperatorio de la paciente embarazada con enfermedad cardiaca. Rev. colomb. anestesiol. [online]. 2006, vol.34, n.1, pp.49-54. ISSN 0120-3347.
The practice of anesthesiology forces us to be in contact with a group of diverse cardiovascular pathologies during pregnancy, with important clinical considerations in the perioperative period, that need careful analysis for an effective intervention to decrease morbility and mortality in this group of patients. During pregnancy and the peripartum period subtancial cardiovascular changes can be seen. Many women with cardiac disease have favorable outcomes, except those with Eisenmenger syndrome, obstructive pulmonary vascular disease and Marfan´s Syndrome with concomitant aortic disease, in which our interventions could get better outcomes and the opportunity to reach a successful childbirth. Maternal deaths from cardiac causes are rare, but our duty is to assure that day by day they decrease, improving quality assistance.
