Abstract
DAMIAN ANICETO, Paulo. THE HISTORICAL FACTOR OF LANGUAGE AND TIME IN DISCOURSE. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.2, pp.11-40. ISSN 0120-338X.
The paper discusses the nodal points of Saussure's structural linguistics and discusses the subsequent critiques carried out by sociolinguistics and the theory of social discourse. New theoretical and analytical readings arose in response to Saussure's theory, according to which the sole and true object of linguistics is language considered in and for itself. Voloshinov and Bakhtin situate language in an ideological complex that reflects social processes of construction of meaning; Bourdieu suggests that language is constituted in a limited market accessed only by a privileged few, in relations of domination over others; and Verón takes up Peirce's ternary model and considers it necessary to dissolve the irremediable disparities arising out of Saussure's system of oppositions. Such oppositions would be the product of a misunderstanding; the real is built in discourse.
