Abstract

SALDIVAR ARREOLA, Rafael; RABAGO TANORI, Álvaro  and  LOZANO BACHIOQUI, Eleonora. TRANSLATION OF MOTION VERBS FROM ENGLISH TO SPANISH. A PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF COMPONENTIAL SEMANTICS IN TRANSLATORS TRAINING. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.1, pp.99-115. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v28n1.51978.

This study analyzes some semantic processes involved in the lexicalization of verbal elements, specifically in the codification of trajectory and mode in English motion verbs, applied to the translation process. The theoretical basis of this analysis is Talmy's (2000) typology, which identifies English as a satellite framework language and Spanish as a verbal framework language. This analysis is based on a parallel Spanish/English translations corpus made by Mexican students of translation.

Keywords : componential semantics; motion verbs; translation; translators training.
