This article details the form and function of stative constructions in Wayuunaiki according to their frequency of use in «The Story of a Man whose Wife Died». As stative constructions I group together verbal predicates without a prefix and nonverbal predicates. In the story, these frequent constructions define the participants and their spatial-temporal context. The functions established in the present study include identificatory, categorizing, presential, qualitative, quantitative, configurative, and quotative. Among the frequently used roots, the most salient in the story are the verbs «ma-» ‘be thus’, «ma-» ‘say thus’, and «anuu» ‘it/she is here’, and indefinite pronouns like «jama» ‘what happened’ and personal ones like «jia» ‘she, it’. By presenting literary examples to model the morphosyntactic structures, while considering their frequency of use, this study seeks to contribute a grammatical description with implications on the relative order of teaching and learning concepts of Wayuunaiki.
