Abstract

VILLAGRAN MEDINA, Gonzalo. The Church and Public Life. Theol. Xave. [online]. 2014, vol.64, n.177, pp.241-266. ISSN 0120-3649.

The moralist and theologian David Hollenbach considers moral, cultural and religious pluralism to be the sign of the times and the point of departure to think about Moral Theology from dialogical universalism. This paradigm comprises a universal view of man and is open to other perspectives. For Hollenbach, the sources of morality ought to be in a critical correlation -synthetic reasoning- in order to face the ethical challenges posed by society. This new perspective empowers the Church to contribute to the common good of a pluralistic society from its own tradition.

Keywords : Church and society; pluralism; common good; public theology; social thinking.
