Abstract

VICHINKESKI TEIXEIRA, Anderson. Revisiting the Schmittian theory of greater spaces (Grossraumlehre): the concept of space in contemporary international law. Rev. Fac. Derecho Cienc. Polit. - Univ. Pontif. Bolivar. [online]. 2012, vol.42, n.116, pp.77-96. ISSN 0120-3886.

The following article aims to analyze some of the main aspects of the theory of greater spaces (Grossraumlehre) of Carl Schmitt. Our central object of study is the relevance of the notion of space to the definition and structuring of regional communities in international law, emerging as a possible alternative to the traditional concept of territory. Some considerations about the historical context of development of the Schmittian thought will be made, trying to offer a better understanding of the socio-historical conditions of production of Schmitt's work.

Keywords : international law; grossraum; Carl Schmitt.
