Abstract

GAVIRIA, Juan Antonio  and  SANCHEZ-ESCOBAR, Cathalina. The Role of the Law Firms in the Legal Globalization Process. Rev. Fac. Derecho Cienc. Polit. - Univ. Pontif. Bolivar. [online]. 2017, vol.47, n.126, pp.169-205. ISSN 0120-3886.  https://doi.org/10.18566/rfdcp.v47n126.a08.

This paper, as its title indicates, analyzes the contribution of multinational law firms in the current process of legal globalization. In particular, and similar to the way as multinational companies contribute to economic globalization, this paper shows how global law firms, by giving advisory, drafting and negotiating international contracts, and representing these companies in international litigations, bring together legal families and contribute to legal convergence. Additionally, this paper analyzes the main challenges that this role of global law firms and, generally speaking, legal globalization, triggers, indicating the recommended course of actions to address them.

Keywords : Law; economics; multinational companies; law firms; globalization.
