Abstract

ZULUAGA, Mauricio. The Relationship between Holism and Empiric Theories. Prax. filos. [online]. 2008, n.26, pp.51-62. ISSN 0120-4688.

The concept of holism has acquired a great importance at the latest semantic and epistemic analysis. Nevertheless, many of the Philosophers who have used this concept have not defined it with clarity. The object of this article is to intend to clarify one of the modes in which this concept can be understood. For it I will center in the relations between holism and empirical theories. I will use some of the elements of the structuralist theory proposed by Moulines, Sneed and Balzer to give complete account of how it might conciliate the thesis of holism with the structuralistic view of scientific theories.

Keywords : Holism; structuralism; philosophy of science; Quine.
