Abstract

Objective To determine the association between oral manifestations of HIV/AIDS patients with antiretroviral therapy and viral load. Matherials and Methods: Cross-sectional study with 166 patients in Cartagena (Colombia). For collection of information, it was taken like norms the concepts of the Center for exchange of views for oral problems related to HIV infection and the parameters for clinical diagnosis of oral manifestations associated with HIV set by the WHO Collaborating Centre. Levels of viral load and antiretroviral therapy were collected from the medical record of every patient. Results: 66.7 % were male, while 33.3% were female, mean age was 36.1 years, the prevalence of oral manifestations associated with HIV was 59.5%, candidiasis was the most common oral manifestation 35.5% monotherapy-treated patients had less spoken, OR 0.20, CI 0.00 to 0.96 (P <0.02). Conclusion: Patients treated with antiretroviral monotherapy and drug therapy had fewer oral lesions than those treated with combination therapy.
