Abstract

Objective: To characterize the population of the village of Salgar Atlantic as a preliminary step in implementing a model of Primary Health Care. Materials and methods: Descriptive investigation at community level. primary source, was collected with a family card at the place of residence. Health interventions were conducted with teachers and students of medicine and nursing, based on identified risks. Results: 418 families (1649 people), 78.9 % stratum 1, 76 % originating from the district were characterized. 62 % are made up of four people or more. 92.5 % are affiliated to the health system. Low attendance at health checks in young adults (9 %) and adolescents (16 %) was found; in children under 10 years the percentages were above 80 %. Assistance to dental checkup in the last six months, 50 % in children-aged 1 to 9 years and 42 % in adolescents. 6 out of 10 households reported at least one member with cardiovascular problems. 1 in 5 families reported a history of metabolic diseases. Conclusions: As for individual determinants, note that the following behaviors of risk for cardiovascular events were found: 8.3 % of people between 20 and 59 years were smokers and 34 % the same people consume alcohol, quadrupling the national average (7.6 %) (Survey National Health). Both factors are broadly described as associated with chronic noncommunicable diseases. As environmental determinants, it was found that there is environmental contamination (37 %), few infrastructure and green areas that facilitate physical activity (34 %), and environmental (30 %) noise.
