Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is associated with cardiovascular disease. Because Westernization processes, hypertension is a public health problem in indigenous communities. Objective: To evaluate the association of cardiovascular risk factors with the prevalence of hypertension in indigenous, Colombia. Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study in 151 persons selected by non-probability sampling. Physical activity was measured with IPAQ and a survey of state changes and barriers to physical activity; also we measured the blood glucose and lipid profile. Frequency, 95% confidence intervals, summary measures and parametric and nonparametric statistical test were performed in SPSS-IBM 20.0 ®. Results: The prevalence of hypertension was 33.8 %, 42.4 % sedentary, dyslipidemia was 68.2 % and diabetes 8.6 %. A statistically difference in the presence of hypertension with dyslipidemia, central obesity and occupation was showed; mean blood pressure was associated with physical activity, systolic blood pressure was associated with physical activity, age and obesity. Conclusion: A high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, sedentary lifestyle was showed. It is necessary to carry out health promotion and prevention of diseases to reduce morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease in indigenous community.
