Due to its nutritious and agricultural potential, interest on quinoa has increased lately, turning it into a diversification alternative for the andean region. However, the detection of relevant needs and unexplored breeding possibilities has led to the present research study, which consisted in the evaluation of 16 lines of sweet quinoa. Part of them were accessions obtained from genotypes SL47, Piartal and Tunkahuan, and the rest were four commercial controls (SL47, Piartal, Tunkahuan and Blanca de Jerico). The study was conducted in the locality of San Francisco of the municipality of Iles (Nariño, Colombia), under a random block experimental design with four repetitions, evaluating some yield components such as plant height, panicle length, 1,000 grain weight and yield, reaction to downy mildew, and certain phenological traits. An analysis of variance was applied to the obtained data, together with a Tukey test (5%) and a Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed the precocity of SL47 (128.75 to 135 days at physiological maturity). In comparing the lines to the controls, the Tunkahuan group (S20, S39 and S44) exhibited genetic improvement regarding yield (2,635.25 to 2,699.83 kg ha-1). The correlation analysis revealed significant associations between plant height and panicle length, on the one hand, and between yield and 1,000 grain weight, on the other hand. Having attained the best selection index, control SL47 proved to be the best of all the evaluated lines.
