Abstract
ECHEVERRI, TIBERIO ÁLVAREZ. MEDELLÍN: FROM A LITTLE VILLAGE TO A VIOLENT CITY. Iatreia [online]. 2003, vol.16, n.4, pp.325-335. ISSN 0121-0793.
THIS ARTICLE REVIEWS from an historical standpoint the changes that lead to the transformation that Medellín experienced in the 19th and 20th century, from a little peaceful village to a violent city. Focus is made on the origins of this process; the industrialization, the lack of permanency of religion as a ruler, the migration of people from the countryside to the urban centers escaping poverty and violence, and the absence of state policies to solve the problems this migration caused.
