Abstract
LEAL LEON, Claudia. THE CHOCÓ PACIFICO MINING COMPANY AND THE PLATINUM BOOM IN COLOMBIA, 1897-1930. hist.crit. [online]. 2009, n.39, suppl.1, pp.150-164. ISSN 0121-1617.
Between 1916 and 1926, when platinum prices were exceptionally high, Colombia was the largest supplier of this metal in the world market. Most of this platinum was mined by the Chocó Pacífico Mining Company in the Condoto River. The government did not receive any royalties from the company, however. This article reconstructs this history and analyzes its implications for the process of state formation in Colombia.
