Abstract

AHUMADA ESCOBAR, Catalina. READING AND WRITING IN A COLOMBIAN SLAVE-BASED HACIENDA: NOTES AND ACCOUNTS FROM HACIENDA COCONUCO (1770-1850). hist.crit. [online]. 2010, n.42, pp.36-56. ISSN 0121-1617.

This article attempts to understand the social uses of reading and writing in Hacienda Coconuco, between 1770 and 1850, and how they illustrate a particular social and administrative organization. The study is based on the analysis of primary sources, particularly the correspondence between members of the Arboleda and Mosquera families located in the Mosquera Collection of the Central Archive of Cauca.
