Abstract

MAUAD, Ana Maria. The Use of the Past and Public History in Brazil: The Trajectory of the Laboratory of Oral History and Image at Universidade Federal Fluminense (1982-2017). hist.crit. [online]. 2018, n.68, pp.27-45. ISSN 0121-1617.  https://doi.org/10.7440/histcrit68.2018.02.

This article presents a historiographical assessment of the trajectory of the Laboratory of Oral History and Image (LABHOI) the of Universidade Federal Fluminense, created in 1982, in order to discuss the challenges of the history of public memory in Brasil -and in Latin America- and the innovative approaches associated with the methodologies of Oral History and Visual History. The analysis is based on the environment and first projects of LABHOI and builds on theoretical and methodological issues on how to proceed on matters of memory. The approach concludes by reflecting on what is known as “historian attitude” through the analysis of the digital platform “Present Pasts” (Passados Presentes).

Keywords : oral history; historiography; collective memory; public history.
