Abstract

GARCIA, Alicia Irene. Seismic hazard, exposure and vulnerability of the Villas Vieja and Nueva de Trancas, Tucumán, Argentina. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2010, n.19, pp.163-176. ISSN 0121-215X.

The Villas Vieja and Nueva de Trancas, located in the tectonic basin of Tapia-Trancas, are located on the epicentral area of the earthquake that destroyed the old village in 1826. The aim is to study the seismic risk faced by both villages as the result of the natural seismic hazard, plus the vulnerability of their population towards the potential occurrence of another destructive earthquake. Bibliographic and documentary analysis of demographic and economic statistics, techniques of geographic survey and spatial analysis were used. The results indicate that these populations present a high degree of physical, structural-housing and socioeconomic vulnerability to the seismic danger to which they are exposed.

Keywords : earthquake; exposed elements; population; poverty; Trancas; vulnerability.
