Abstract

GREGORIO DE ANDRADE, Rita de Cássia  and  SATYRO MAIA, Doralice. The Initial Urban Design of Small Cities in the Sertão da Paraíba: The Case of the Town of Boqueiro do Curema. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.1, pp.121-130. ISSN 0121-215X.

The city of Coremas is located in the interior of the State of Paraíba. Its origins date back to the 19th century, when it started out as a small town called Boqueirão do Curema. The methodology of this project included the preparation of a bibliographic inventory, reading of selected works, and the collection and analysis of the current plans of small cities located in the interior of northeastern Brazil. The article analyzes the initial urban design of the town of Boqueirao do Curema, which features a spatial logic that recurs in other northeastern Brazilian towns. This demonstrates that some degree of planning was involved in the urban design of the towns in the region under study.

Keywords : Boqueirao do Curema; small cities; town; urban design; urban morphology.
