Abstract

ORTIZ MONTERO, Jesús David  and  HERNANDEZ PENA, Yolanda. Analysis of Local Perceptions and Responses to the Process of Rurbanization in the Municipal Subdivision of Chuntame, Municipality of Cajicá, Cundinamarca, on the Basis of Local Knowledge. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1, pp.87-99. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v24n1.47775.

The rurbanization process of the municipal subdivision of Chuntame, municipality of Cajicá, affects the sustainability of the territory due to its impact on the socio-cultural, economic, and environmental dimensions. The perceptions and responses of the inhabitants to this process were characterized according to five dimensions, on the basis of local knowledge: territorial, socioeconomic, socio-cultural, political-institutional, and environmental. Questionnaires and interviews were carried out, in conformity with the qualitative ethnography methodological approach that was employed. Changes in land use, decreasing employment opportunities, young people's lack of interest in the countryside, and modification of the landscape were the main changes registered. The article discusses how local perceptions and responses reflect the new forms of spatial and functional organization of rural spaces.

Keywords : local knowledge; perceptions; local responses; rurbanization process; sustainability.
