Abstract

GOMEZ PINTUS, Ana Helena. The Historical Formation of Greater Buenos Aires: Transformations and Debates Regarding the Territory. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1, pp.173-191. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v24n1.43061.

This paper reveals an unfamiliar side of the expansion of the Greater Buenos Aires (GBA): the creation of residential areas that fall into the category of "garden city" suburbs, during the urban sprawl years (1887- 1970). At the same time, it carries out a reflection on the spatial transformation of the area, as well as on the names used to refer to it. We assume that there is a problematical relationship between the word, the object, and its application to different realities.

Keywords : cultural studies; urban sprawl; Greater Buenos Aires.
