Abstract

MELISSA RUA, Laura. Socio-spacial structures within the confinement: Bellavista Prison. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.1, pp.171-194. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v25n1.52598.

This article is the result of an ethnographic type research project carried out in the Bellavista Prison installations in Medellin, Colombia. The objective of the work consisted of making a theoreticalconceptual approximation concerning the socio-spacial structures (territory, territoriality, place, social space) found within the confinement and starting with a vision of the people sentenced to the place: they live it, walk it, and configure it in the supervisory systems as a common space; in other words, from the internal practices developed by those incarcerated in the jail space, same as their perceptions, ideas, and subjectivities.

Keywords : spaciality; prison space; social space; territory; territoriality and place.
