Abstract The purpose is to characterize the physical-chemical and morpho-dynamics of the climbing dune located in Araya. For this the following research phases were carried out: a) ‘Field', for the sedimentological collection at the apex and the base of the deposit; b) ‘Laboratory' to determine size and shape of grains, CaCO3 and heavy minerals content, and c) ‘Office', focused on statistical analysis. The sands are fine, generally rounded, with a mineralogical composition of 63.68% quartz + feldspar, 33.75% CaCO3 and 2.56% heavy minerals, and show an average thrust of 1.16 meters above the rocky outcrop between September to April, possibly linked to increased speed of local winds, which recorded an average of up to 81.04 m/s.

Keywords : fine sand; climbing dunes; geomorphology; Araya Peninsula; sedimentology.
