Abstract

Considering the relevance of abusing crack in Brazilian and its relationship to violence, this study proposes to analyze the association between violent behavior -crime, auto and hetero aggressive- among crack users and socio-demographic variables and use drugs. It is a conducted quantitative study, cross-sectional with convenience sample of 72 men crack users in treatment in therapeutic communities in six cities of the Western State of Minas Gerais (Brazil). Data were statistically analyzed in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, Version 17.0, using chi-square test to check for significant differences. The results point to an association of trafficking with many stones consumed and treatments performed; arrest or detention with low education, being unmarried and age of onset of illicit drug use; suicide attempts with maximum time of abstinence and hetero aggression with age at first use of illicit drugs and daily frequency of crack use.
