This article seeks to contribute to the understanding of the videogame as a prosocial tool with growing potential in global pedagogy and in generation of specific social behavior. First, the elements that comprise the video game concept are explored as well as the social, economic and technological aspects that characterize them. Subsequently, a historical survey is undertaken of the implications of videogames with respect to highly susceptible contemporary conflicts. Then, experiences involving reliance on videogames in support of diverse forms of problem resolution are explored. The use of videogames by organizations and governments for the consolidation of public policies in that context is analyzed and finally, the development and evaluation of a specific prosocial videogame in Colombia, “Reconstruction”, is explained in order to clarify its scope.
