Abstract

DE CASTELBAJAC, Matthieu. ORDER AND VIOLENCE AFTER 35 YEARS: PECAUTIAN CLUES FOR CONTEMPORARY RESEARCH. anal.polit. [online]. 2022, vol.35, n.105, pp.48-66.  Epub Apr 11, 2023. ISSN 0121-4705.  https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v35n105.107744.

This article offers a user manual for contemporary readers of Order and violence. It reconstructs the book’s argument based on two theses on the disarticulation of society and politics in Colombia. Subsequently, it presents four implications of this argument for contemporary research. The first three-regional comparatism, a broad approach to democracy, and a strong version of the postulate of social self-organization-form the basis of the “Pécaut method.” The fourth applies this method to some aspects of the relationship between violence and politics-state weakness, clientelistic networks, and the privatization of the use of force-that classical explanations tend to naturalize.

Keywords : democracy; disarticulation; violence; civil society; political drift..
