Abstract
ESTEVEZ MUJICA, Carlos Fernando; MORENO-PIRAJAN, Juan Carlos and VARGAS S., Edgar Mauricio. Collection, characterization and testing of activated carbon fabrics. rev.ing. [online]. 2006, n.23, pp.68-75. ISSN 0121-4993.
Activated carbon cloth (ACC) has shown to be one of the most attractive adsorbent materials, due to his excellent adsorption rates, high specific area and lower operational problems when it is compared with other conventional materials, like granular activated carbon. However, ACC production shows elevated costs becoming its principal disadvantage. Under this consideration, this research studies the production of ACC from cotton textiles (an economical raw material) using a combined chemical-thermo activation process, under a variation of two experimental parameters in the chemical activation stage: Humidify time in Phosphoric Acid Solution and Solution Concentration. The characterization of the ACC produced, is obtained by the analysis of the isotherms of adsorption of N2 at 77K, X-ray diffraction and Infrared spectroscopy results. Finally the research evaluates ACC adsorption efficiency when it is used in agro-pesticides on a packed bed system.
