Abstract

PEREA-TORRES, Lina M; TORRES-LOZADA, Patricia; CRUZ-VELEZ, Camilo H  and  ESCOBAR-RIVERA, Juan C. Influence of Filter Medium Configuration on Constant-Rate Filtration of Clarified Water from the Cauca River. rev.ing. [online]. 2013, n.38, pp.38-44. ISSN 0121-4993.

It was evaluated in pilot scale the effect of the filter media configuration on the filtration of clarified water in Puerto Mallarino drinking water treatment plant from Cali - Colombia. Four configurations were assessed, the first with similar characteristics of the existing filters and the other tree changed effective size and anthracite bed depth. The turbidity, length run, water production and head lost were analyzed. The filtration was more efficient when reduced effective size and increase the anthracite bed. The best configuration, even when turbidities in the clarified water was greater than 10,0 UNT was the filter with anthracite bed depth of 700 mm

Keywords : Anthracite; configuration of filter media; filtration; sand; turbidity.
