Abstract

GORBANEFF, Yuri; TORRES, Sergio  and  CONTRERAS, Nelson. Anatomy of the health-providing chain in Colombia under the contribution regime. Innovar [online]. 2004, vol.14, n.23, pp.168-181. ISSN 0121-5051.

The contribution regime as part of healthproviding system in Bogotá is analysed as a service-providing chain of production. The chain’s primary and secondary members are identified as are their vertical and horizontal structure and the transversal processes developed within it. The chain’s description allows high transaction costs to be identified as the main problem afflicting it. These hamper the functioning of price mechanisms, making perfect competition impossible and imposing forms of hybrid organisation. This article poses topics for future research, aimed at optimising forms of governing transactions, lowering the system’s costs and liberating resources for the subsidised regime.

Keywords : Chain of production; transaction costs; health service.
