Abstract
MELLADO RUIZ, Claudia; SALINAS MERUANE, Paulina and BARRIA, Sergio. Structure of jounalistic employment and professional validation of its practices in the chilean labor market. Innovar [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.36, pp.91-106. ISSN 0121-5051.
Using data from the first phase of a 3 year research project on the realities of journalism in Chile, the work analyzes the employment potential associated with the practice of that profession, as well as effective existing levels of employment in the most representative regions of the North and South macro zone of the country. Through a quantitative study of a descriptive nature and for the purposes of comparing both regions, the structure of journalistic employment is examined along with the professional skills most commonly required by the market and the levels of centralization of the productive logics of this activity. The findings question the structural saturation of the journalistic labor field. At the same time, they show the geopolitical centralization of its behavior in the large cities of Chile. However, they question the validation of this type of professional in the society along with the universities' ability to train the journalists that the market needs.
