Abstract

DE NARDI, Loris. The Viceroyalty of Sicily and Peru in the 17th Century. A Comparison in the Context of Global History of Two Realities only Geographically Distant. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2014, n.45, pp.55-75. ISSN 0121-5167.

On the base of a process of historic revision, started by global history, with this study I want to answer to the following question: Can we directly compare the European domains of the Spanish monarchy with the Indian ones? In order to provide an answer, this work attempts to make a comparison between the viceroyalty of Sicily and Peru: two cases that offer numerous opportunities to highlight the common values that made a coherent ideological whole of the Catholic Monarchy. However, given the size of the matter, it will not be possible to deeply analyse all the common aspects between this two cases. For this reason, after a general overview, our focus will be on the public entry of the viceroy: the most important ceremony of all those reserved to the new official during his arrival.

Keywords : Viceroyalty of Peru; Viceroyalty of Sicily; Monarchy; Political Historiography.
