Abstract
DERGHOUGASSIAN, Khatchik. From The Thirty Years War to 21st Century Jihad. A Prelude to secularization?. colomb.int. [online]. 2013, n.78, pp.15-46. ISSN 0121-5612.
The "return of religion" in international politics is an observable phenomenon since the 1980s. From the perspective of IR Theory, positivist schools do not consider the religious factor an independent variable explaining the current global conflict; whereas post-positivists have gone as far as to advocate for a proper field of study. Is the "return of the religion" conceptually announcing the end of the secular era and all the Modern rationale for the study of the political dynamics? This study departs from this question to focus on the lines of fracture within the Islam to argue that in fact Jihad in the 21st century might well be the very sign of the last war of secularization.
