Abstract
SOLIS VAZQUEZ, Sheila Yazmín; FLORES FLORES, Adán Jacinto and GARCIA FERNANDEZ, Francisco. Determination of changes in regional employment in the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico: a shift-share analysis. Rev.fac.cienc.econ. [online]. 2021, vol.29, n.1, pp.77-94. Epub Mar 30, 2021. ISSN 0121-6805. https://doi.org/10.18359/rfce.4323.
The objective of this work was to analyze the evolution of employment in the state of Tamaulipas (Mexico), through an approximation to the regional dynamics of employment during the 2004-2014 period. A shift-share analysis was carried out, complemented with the calculation of the location quotient (LQ). Both the shift-share analysis and the location quotient (LQ) are descriptive techniques, in which the year or period covered unequivocally influence the final results that could be obtained. Thus, 3 time frame works were used for this study, 2004- 2009, 2009-2014, and 2004-2014, in order to minimize the above-mentioned restrictions. The most important findings indicate an increase in the employment rate tied to the national trend, and not so much arising from the regional and the industry's effect in the country. It is worth mentioning that the effect was not the same for all industries. One of the main contributions of this study is that it can be used as input for the design of competitive policies that facilitate and promote original development in Tamaulipas. Likewise, appropriate industrial location favors the generation of sustainable competitive advantages.
