Abstract
ARAYA-PIZARRO, Sebastián. Leadership and Organizational Performance in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Chile. Rev.fac.cienc.econ. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.1, pp.69-86. Epub Oct 23, 2023. ISSN 0121-6805. https://doi.org/10.18359/rfce.6393.
The study analyzed the relationship between leadership styles and organizational performance in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in an emerging economy. To do so, 119 business managers from the commercial sector in Chile (Coquimbo region) were surveyed. The data were examined using structural equation techniques and multiple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that only the transformational leadership style is significant for organizational performance. Specifically, it was found that there is a positive relationship between transformational leadership and financial, strategic, and satisfaction outcomes. It was also revealed that all dimensions of performance are directly and significantly related to each other. It is concluded that exercising leadership that promotes creative and participatory problem-solving, based on recognizing the personal needs, abilities, and aspirations of employees, has a positive impact on organizational performance.
