Abstract

VILLEGAS VELEZ, Álvaro. Landscapes, experiences and stories in the first two expeditons of the Chorographic Commission. Nueva Granada, 1850-1851. Hist. Soc. [online]. 2011, n.20, pp.91-112. ISSN 0121-8417.

The ''Comisión Corográfica'' was the largest geographical project developed in the Republic of New Granada (Colombia currently). This article focuses on the first two expeditions conducted between 1850 and 1851, from a perspective that assumes that a comprehensive understanding of this enterprise and landscapes that formed, required to account for their constituents, political, scientific and aesthetic. Through this approach it is argued that the description of the landscape refers to a body of experience, in which they become events, a succession of vivid landscapes, feelings and narrated, in addition to other remembered past and others but future.
