Abstract

CASTRILLON GALLEGO, Catalina. ''Making radio use something more than a vulgar entertainment''. Radio listeners as precursors of the Colombian radio audience, 1928-1940. Hist. Soc. [online]. 2011, n.20, pp.113-132. ISSN 0121-8417.

The paper aims to show that the process of consolidation of radio as mass media depended on the formation and training of its audience in which Colombia was initially restricted to minority scientific community to urban centers and then managed to cover a spectrum broader population. Factors such as the installation and operation of radio stations, the increased number of radios and the associations of amateur radio have contributed to the process. The information came from newspapers, magazines, trade directories, commercial guides and statistical studies of the age.

Keywords : Colombia; Mass media; Broadcasting; Amateur Radio; Audience; XX siglo.
